Opening of new free-access computer centre in Langley

A new computer centre, offering free internet and email access and a range of computer programs, will soon open in Langley. The Longwood Towers I.T. Centre was the brainchild of Keith Nelson, who initially came up with the idea for a suite of computers for residents in his immediate area. Since the original idea, Keith's plans have grown to offer free access for everyone.

To celebrate, Longwood Towers is having a open day, on Saturday, 10th May 2003, from 11am to 3pm. Visitors are invited to come and have a tour of the Centre and share a buffet at Hawker Hall, Common Road, Langley SL3 8TG.

There are many different applications available to use as well as free Internet, such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint and the graphics package Adobe Photoshop. The Centre aims to have two volunteers on hand at every session to help out, coach and guide users.

"The basic idea behind the Centre is to allow people to have a go", says Keith, "So even if all they want to do is surf, that's fine by us".

As well as 6 PCs and two laptops, the Centre also offers the use of a scanner, two web cams and colour and black-and-white printing. A range of special equipment such as large-scale keyboard and switch box are also provided to help the disabled user.

It's open on Tuesdays from 10am to 12pm, Wednesdays from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm, Thursdays from 2 to 4pm, and Saturdays from 11am to 2pm, at 10 Albion House, Common Road.

New volunteers and donations are always welcome, so if you feel you have the skills to help out, please contact Keith on 01753 542103.
